Finding a place to park a lorry legally and safely is part of the job. FreightIntel keeps two related layers and is careful about what each one means.

HGV parking

  • Over 200 HGV parking and rest sites, taken from OpenStreetMap and surveyed records.
  • List sites near any point within a radius you choose, nearest first, with the distance from that point.
  • Each site shows what the source records, such as the kind of site and capacity where it is known.

Limits. Capacity is a historical figure from the source and carries its own date. It is not a live count of free spaces. Live occupancy is not available. A site is a place listed in the record, not a promise there is room tonight.

Theft hotspots

  • A register of locations where cargo or fuel thefts have been reported, such as A14 Cambridge Services, M6 Corley Services and an A1 layby in Lincolnshire.
  • Every entry is entered by hand from a cited police force or news report. Nothing is generated automatically.
  • Entries fade towards historical once the source is older than 180 days, so an old report is not shown as current.

Limits. The register records reports, not risk. It never labels a place safe or unsafe, and a place missing from the list is not necessarily free of theft. It is not a route safety rating.

Data honesty

Both layers show where their data comes from. Sources and licences, including the OpenStreetMap ODbL attribution, are on the data sources page.
